Back in February, we blogged about what to search for when doing a job search using the very popular craigslist. In the ensuing months, it appears that as the recession, or, at the very least, unemployment drags on, the legitimate job postings are becoming harder to find.
As you can already guess, in the place of the legitimate positions have, of course, scams and spams and ads from recruiters who have no interest in placing you into a job.
Understandably, people have gotten frustrated with the lack of positions on many of the popular job boards. However, it seems as if the frustration has boiled over into the pages of craigslist.
And it’s gotten downright nasty. In thumbing through some of the Cleveland-area job listings, people who have grown tired of the bogus ads are lashing out in public, with full-on rants, complete with the caps-lock on, that should probably be better off in the Rants and Raves section of the site.
We understand that you are angry at getting hosed by scammers and spammers, plus we get that the anonymity of posting of craigslist allows you to verbally assault these posters with impunity. However, here’s the real advice we have for you…
Calm down!
Times are rough for everyone, and it might make you feel better to rail on against people who have no interest other than their own, but you know that they won’t stop. And pretty soon, what starts out as a simple rant gets reduced to a one-sided flame war, in which the person you’re flaming couldn’t care less about what you have to say!
So, when you see something you know to be bogus, take a step back, and hit the Spam/Overpost link. Sure, it’ll take the craigslist folks a while to come around, but it beats getting your blood pressure up over something that really isn’t worth it.
