For the past couple of weeks, I have been working on a new book, Supersize Your Resume, which is a guide to creating an online presence for yourself in addition to your traditional resume. I should put the finishing touches on it soon, and it will be available in print, PDF and as an Amazon Kindle e-book. Here’s the introduction, for your reading pleasure:

It doesn’t seem that long ago, but before the explosion of the Information Age, having your resume was enough. The one to two-page format (or longer with executive or curricula vitae) was sufficient to give employers a good idea about what type of skills and experience you have.

Times, of course, are changing.

Are the efforts on your resume enough? Maybe. There are still a great many situations where your traditional resume will be more than enough to get you an interview, as will be explained in the first chapter.

However, some organizations are looking for more. They’re looking for the type of innovation and creativity that will help them grow. Are you the person that will provide it to them?

If not, your information may end up at the bottom of the pile.

More to the point, the people competing with you in the job market are looking for a leg up. And if you’re in a tight job market, depending on your career field of choice, the number of opportunities will be limited, leading to numerous responses.

How will you stand out? And how do you know if the people around you aren’t doing the same thing.

That’s why it’s probably high time to Supersize Your Resume!

By supersizing your resume, you will not only be able to show off your talents, it will also increase your visibility, improve your online reputation and allow employers to see who’s in your network and how they see you as a professional.

It’s easy to do. Chances are, you may have already laid the groundwork for supersizing your resume and not even know it yet!

This guide details some of the things to think about:

  • Situations in which traditional resumes are still acceptable.
  • Assessment of what your current resume and portfolio shapes up.
  • Why more employers are using search engines.
  • Protecting your online reputation.

Once you’ve got that, it’s time to supersize!

  1. I’ll look forward to that book, Bob. I think that’s a great subject, and you’ve nicely captured it with a resonant phrase. Good luck, amigo.
